Beak Marks Buttonhole Book

This is a buttonhole binding which means that there is an opening in the spine that looks through into the inside of the book with the bookblock becoming part of the outer design of the book. It is a lovely book structure that invites to be creative with its design. This book features a stunning pale blue book cloth with hot pen hand drawn bird footprints and beak mark inlays from a darker cloth. This book was inspired by an early morning walk at Malacleit Beach where I was astonished by the sheer number and size of beak marks and their neighbouring busy bird footprints.

The sewing that holds the book together shows in parallel lines of thread on the spine.

The interleaving papers are a textured pastel blue, black and sand coloured Hahnemuehle Ingres paper which are deckled as is the rest of the book block, adding to its organic and substantial feel.

The book block is made from an acid free paper, 170gsm, which is ideal for writing, drawing and sketch book purposes.
