Barefoot at Clachan Sands - Buttonhole Book

This is a buttonhole binding which means that there is an opening in the covers and spine that looks through into the inside of the book with the bookblock becoming part of the outer design of the book. It is a lovely book structure that invites to be creative with its design. This book features sand from Clachan Sands Beach and some of my rock papers. When I see this book I think about my kids running barefoot over the rocks at Clachan Sands.

The sewing that holds the book together shows in parallel lines of thread on the spine.

The interleaving papers are a textured pastel blue and sand coloured Hahnemuehle Ingres paper which are deckled as is the rest of the book block, adding to its organic and substantial feel.

The book block is made from an acid free paper, 170gsm, which is ideal for writing, drawing and sketch book purposes.
